Not much is known about the life of Robert Alfred Geer. He lived in Jewett City, Connecticut. It is thought that he was an orphan or did not have a family. He may have lived with a Mr. Herbert A. Salisbury who was his caretaker. He joined the USNR in September 1943 and was with the Seabees 133 Battalion, Co. B. Alfred served in World War II and landed on the Japanese island of Iwo Jima. He was killed on the first day of battle, February 19, 1945. His name is listed on the Iwo Jima Memorial in Newington, CT. We are in contact with a fellow comrade of his who is desperately searching for a family member to talk to. This comrade was present when Alfred was shot and wants closure. He is in his 90's.
