Mrs. C. L. Neely entertained with a children's party Saturday afternoon in her home on North Fourth street honoring the fourth birthday of her niece, Billye Nona Walker.

Annual Event To
Be At Gridiron

Final practice sessions for the May festival to be held on May 1, are under way at the Whitehurst school and from all indications the fete this season will surpass any held in previous years.

The festival will get underway at 6 p.m. on May 1 at the gridiron and an international theme will be followed.

Miss Oleta Fullerton will present her second grade pupils in a folk dance of Argentine titled, "The Spanish Couple Dance." Partners for this dance are EImer Lee Herring, Florene Criswell; Dan Woods, Louise Minton: J. C. Muphy, Lois Hardin; Billy Talley, Doris Pownell; Lee Moseley, Ima Christian; C. L. Robertson, Betty Jo Davis; Chester Funderburg, Betty June Black-wood; Arthur Puckett, Mary Sue Price; Pat Hare, Geraldine Price; Dale Carmichael, Mary Francis Abbott; Jerry Lee, Genevieve Wright; Glen Reeves, Wanda Fay Mills.

Seeds Entertain
Junior Choir Of
Church Monday

Rev. and Mrs. W. C. Seeds were hosts to the Junior Choir of the First Christian Church Monday evening in the church basement.

Games of the evening were ping pong and skating.

A refreshment course was served to Christine Bushree, Laura Ann Windle, Mary Nell Truby, Helen Jo Brickell, Jackie Jarvis, Phyllis Jarvis, Sue Hunter, Jackie Ann wonder, Bobbie Stevens, Ross Dugger, Karl Mueller, Arthur Pucket, Dan Woods, Oma Claire Morris, Jeanett Livingston, Pat Schwer, Dean Smith, Myrtie June Smith, Charlene Willoughby, George Albert Stovall, Jo Anne Ward, Patty Neely, Virginia Ann Brown, Laverne Jones, Nita Joy Shadid, Louise Minton, Wanza Johnson, Bob Luttrell, Glen Hartpence, Rex Patterson, Ann Duff, Janet Woods and the hosts.

The choir meets twice a week for rehearsals on Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 4:45 to 5:30.

In December 1944 Dan was one of the Brownies in the grade school Christmas operetta "At Home With Santa Claus" at the Whitehurst school auditorium.

Dan Woods, grandson of Mrs. Dora Woods, lives at 803 Fourth street.

At the beginning of 1948-49 he started raising 50 chickens for a project. He fed these chickens for 10 weeks and then started selling them. He made a profit of approximately $18.

Early in the year he went to Elk City to judge dairy cattle.

He played halfback in football this year. He played forward on the basketball team. He is also a member of the track team this year.

He is a member of the student council, vice-president of sophomore class and plays a cornet in the band.

He has also been sports editor of the Eagle Scream for the year.

Dan Walter Woods was born on November 16, 1932 in his Grandmother Woods house at 803 North 4th Street in Sayre, OK. He was the son of Walter Woods and Jewell (Puckett) Woods, who both died before Dan was ten years old. Dan and his sister Janet lived with their Grandmother Nora Woods until they graduated from High School.

Dan attended the Sayre Public Schools for twelve years, graduating in May 1951. Dan lettered three years each in football, basketball and track. His senior year in high-school, he was the quarterback of Sayre's only State Championship football team and was selected to the all District Team. Dan was also president of the Student Council. After graduating from high-school, Dan enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a systems radar operator in an airborn early warning squadron. He was honorably discharged in June 1955. Dan attended Oklahoma State University one year. He married Jan Allison on August 25, 1956 in Sayre, OK, Dan enrolled in the school of pharmacy at Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford, OK and graduated Magnum Cum Laude in 1959 and was President of the American Pharmaceutical Association during his senior year. After graduating they moved to Texas. He was a pharmacist for 36 years.

Dan passed away Monday, January 8, 1996 at his home in Mt. Pleasant, TX at the age of 63 years.

He is survived by his wife Jan of Mt. Pleasant, TX; two daughters, Lori Woods of Dallas, TX and Allison and Randy Monts of Pittsburg. TX; one son, Mark and Connie Woods of Mt. Pleasant, TX; one sister, Janet and George Stovall of Richardson, TX; two grandchildren, Amber and Lincoln Woods.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 12, 1996 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sayre First Baptist Church with Tom Cooksey and Bill Talley officiating.

Interment will be in the Sayre-Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Sayre.
