KAYSVILLE--Merwin Lee Udseth, beloved husband, father and grandfather, 69, passed away Sunday, November 10, 1996 in Layton.

Born August 4, 1927 in Summit, South Dakota, a son of Frederick and Mamie Lee Udseth.

He married Marjorie Alshire in Minot, North Dakota in 1963. She passed away. He married Karen Ev Groenenstein on Oct. 15, 1965 in Minot, North Dakota.

He had lived in North and South Dakota most of his life and in Kaysville, Utah the last seven years. Merwin graduated from Augustana College in 1951 with a B.S. in Economics and his Masters in Education from the Grand Forks North Dakota University. He served in the Navy for four years.

Merwin held many leadership positions in the Presbyterian Church in Minot, North Dakota. He was a professor at Turtle Mountain Community College. After retirement he taught G.E.D. in Dunseith, North Dakota.

Merwin was post commander of the VFW, president of Life Underwriters for the State of North Dakota.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, Kaysville; four sons, John Udseth, Salt Lake City; David Wier, Ogden; Mark (Robin) Wier, Mesquite, Nev.; James (Jennifer) Udseth, Sandy; three daughters, Cindy Wier Gillis, Kaysville; Sandra (Marlin) Udseth Allery, Dunseith, North Dakota; and Sharon Udseth, Chico, Calif.; also 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville 13th Ward Chapel, 875 East 200 North, Thursday, Nov. 14, 1996. Viewing will be at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 No. Main from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9:45-10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Interment Kaysville City Cemetery.
