Jesup, Ga. - David B. Ammons, 71, of Jesup, Ga., passed away Saturday, September 20, 2014, after a courageous bout with cancer. The Brunswick, Ga., native had lived in Wayne and Pierce Counties, Ga. most of his life and was a retired boilermaker with Local Union 85.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working outdoors, metal detecting, studying his American Indian ancestry, and was an avid NASCAR fan. He served in both the U.S. Army and U. S. Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Clarence and Mary Lou Ammons and his brother, Robert Ammons.

Survivors are two sons, Mark Ammons of Southport, NC, Kevin(Joyce) Ammons of Lambertville, MI; a daughter, Michelle Nash Ammons of Tifton, Ga.; 3 grandchildren, Sabrie Ammons of Southport, NC, Taylor and Brooklin Ammons of Lambertville, MI; 11 siblings, Maxine King, Mary Ann (Benny) Guest, Paul Ammons, and Melba (Jim) Byrd, all of Offerman, Ga., Marie (Tracy) Thornton, Margie Smith, and Deryl (Gail) Ammons, all of Jesup, Ga., Danny Ammons of Brunswick, Ga., Donnie Ammons of Blackshear, Ga., Vicky (Keith) Bowen of Dublin, Ga., and Joe (Brenda ) Ammons of Wildwood, FL.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00pm Monday, September 22, 2014, from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stanley Todd officiating, along with the American Legion Post 311’s presentation of the U.S. Flag.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, Inc.
