From the Peterborough Advertiser, 18th June 1898: KING'S CLIFFE. OBITUARY. – We deeply regret to record the death of Mrs. Sarah Edgson, wife of Mr. Edwd. Edgson, one of the principal tradesmen in King's Cliffe, which occurred on Sunday, after a distressing illness. The deceased lady was a Congregationalist, but was always actively associated with any work which tended to the general good of the parish. She was highly respected by all in the place, ample testimony o which was shown by the large attendance at the funeral, which took place on Thursday afternoon. The first portion of the burial ceremony was conducted by the Rev. C. Stanyon at the private residence, from whence the coffin was borne to the grave in the churchyard by Messrs. R. Green, H. Palmer, W. Coleman, J. Chapman, W. Sharpe, and G. Close. The chief mourners included Mr. Edward Edgson (widower), Mr. John T. Edgson, Mr. Harry Edgson, Mr. Arnold Edgson, and Mr. Fred Edgson (sons), Mrs. Lizzie Edgson, Miss Annie Edgson, Mr. and Mrs. Stanyon (Ketton), Mr. and Mrs. Sinfield, Miss Nellie Miles, Mr. and Mrs. Mould (Nassington), Mr. Richmond (Barrowden), &c. The remaining portion of the service was concluded at the grave-side by Rev. C. Stanyon, assisted by Rev. W. Upton, the hymn, "Oh! God our help in ages past" completing the ceremony. The inscription on the coffin was "Sarah G. Edgson, died June 12th, 1898, aged 68 years." The attendance at the grave-side was largely made up of elderly and poorer people, who were deeply affected at the loss of one who had become endeared to them by innumerable acts of kindness. Amongst a wealth of floral tributes were:-
- In loving remembrance of my dear Wife, and our Loving Mother, from Father, Harry, Fred, and Arnold. - In loving remembrance of our dear Mother, from Tom, Lizzie, and her grandchildren (Morcott). – A token of love for our dear mother, from Charlie, Julia, and the children. – In loving memory, from John and Fanny. – In loving memory, from Edith and Percy. – With deepest sympathy, from Mr. and Mrs. Harry Palmer and family. – A tribute of affection, from Mr. Richmond. – With Deep sympathy, from Mrs Walker and Bertha. – With deepest sympathy, from Mrs. Burrowes and Grace. – With deep and loving sympathy, from Mrs. T. Miles, and Mr. and Mrs. Dixon, senr. – From Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Bayliss and family. – With deep sympathy, from E. Stanyon
