William Joseph Culpepper of Prineville died at a camping resort near LaPine on Friday, May 31. He was 75 years old.
He was born June 7, 1926 in Eminence, Missouri, to Lewis Hobson Culpepper and Nellie Alpha Hurt. During the 30's his family moved to Sisters to obtain work in the timber industry. In 1941 they moved to Prineville where he attended high school. He joined the served during WWII serving as a carpenter's mate.
After the war he married Donna Jean in 1946 in Prineville. During that time he worked for JC Penney's, as a butcher and cabinetmaker and in construction. He worked for Hudspeth Pine as a diesel mechanic in 1949.
In 1957 he moved to The Dalles where he worked for Empire and Stone Machinery and Halton Tractor. After retiring in 1989 he and his wife began traveling in their RV to see the sights.
His interests included ballroom dancing, snow skiing, tennis, hunting, fishing and camping.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served in a many capacities.
Survivors include his wife Donna Culpepper of Prineville; sisters, Nadine Bartlett and Flossie Dill of Prineville; Mildred Dill of Mattawa, Washington; children, JoAnne Haugen of Dallas, Ore., Jerry Culpepper of Prineville; Jim Culpepper of Boise, Idaho; John Culpepper of Canby; and Jan Williams of Hood River; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Viewing services will take place Wed., June 5 from noon to 1 p.m. at the LDS Church in Prineville. Funeral services will follow the viewing starting at 1 p.m. Burial will conclude services at Juniper Haven Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Prineville Funeral Home.
