"A noble, fine spirited Christian in the person of Mrs. I. N. Eshelman of Lamartine, passed through the portals at the end of day into the endless day of eternity on Monday, August 18, 1924, at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Eshelman seemed to be in ordinary good health until about ten weeks prior to her teach when she was suddenly seized with illness. From that time on until the time of her departure, she suffered intensely from Bright's disease. But when her spirit took its flight there was great peace and calm, and at evening time there was light. Celinda Alice Gathers was the daughter of Henry and Mary Gathers and was born in Clarion County on Dec. 26, 1864. There she made her home until she was united in marriage with Mr. Eshelman on July 13, 1905, following which their home was established in the village of Salem, Lamartine Post office, Salem township. Mrs. Eshelman was a member of the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church and was unusually active in all the work of the church. She was present at all services including the Sunday School and prayer meeting. She was also Supt. of the Cradle Roll and put her whole heart and soul in her work, having as her slogan "anything worth doing is worth doing well." This spirit in her church work made her a most useful and helpful Christian. In case of sickness in the community she was ever ready with a helping hand. Oh, how greatly she will be missed. Mrs. Eshelman is survived by her husband and one brother, Emery L. Gathers, of Clarion, and one sister, Mrs. T. M. McKee, of Bradford, Pa. The funeral was held August 20th at Salem, her pastor Rev. J. R. Booth conducting the services, assisted by Rev. Miller Harding of the M. E. Church. The interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery at Salem."
