Arnold Edwin Laufmann, 90, Canova, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Golden Living Healthcare Center, Salem.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Canova. Burial will be in Spencer Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the family present to greet friends at 7 p.m. at Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard.

Arnold was born on Aug. 12, 1918, on a farmstead south of Bridgewater to Wilhelm and Regina (Uphoff) Laufmann.

When he was young, he moved to Spencer with his family and attended Pearl No. 2 country school in McCook County until the eighth grade. He then worked on the family farm with his father seven miles north of Spencer.

On April 29, 1947, he married De Lors Bigelow in Toledo, Ohio.

He returned to Spencer, where he continued to farm.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Canova and served on different boards.

He is survived by his wife, four sons: Arnold "Sonny" and wife Nancy, Minnehaha County; Carroll and wife Lorraine, Union, Ky.; Rex and wife Theresa, Emery; and Eric, Omaha, Neb.; two daughters: Patricia Stanton and husband James, Billings, Mont.; and Annette Laufmann, Omaha; 10 grandchildren and one sister: Mabel Haan, Freeman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Wilmer and Gideon; and a niece.
