Hansford L. Pope, age 90, passed away Saturday January 4, 2014. Born January 6, 1923 in Progress, MS, he was a graduate of Southwest College in Summit, MS. From 1942-1946 he proudly served in WWII and The Korean War serving in the signal corps teletype battalion. Staying in active reserve, he returned to the Korean War until 1952.

Residing in Jackson, Hansford became branch manager for Dictaphone Corporation. He retired after forty years of service to Dictaphone. His success can be directly attributed to his salesmanship and work ethic. He took pride in this fact: he left his customers satisfied.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Ellzey, and father, Laney Pope of Pike County. Deceased are three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his beloved wife of seventy-one years, Sadie. Also he is survived by one daughter, Sylvia Hodge (Danny) of Jackson; sisters Zelma Roberts of Summit, Mississippi and Wilda Rhodus of Magnolia, Mississippi; two grandaughters, Sheila Hodge Howell of Pensacola, Florida (Mark) and Joanna Hodge Arnold of Brandon (Edward); one grandson, Charlton Heath Hodge of Shreveport, Louisana (Maricris); three great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters.

Visitation for Mr. Pope is 5pm-8pm Monday, January 6, 2014 at Lakewood Funeral Home and again 10am Tuesday. Funeral services are 11am Tuesday at the chapel with interment to follow in Lakewood Memorial Park.
