Arlene Harvey, age 88 of Brookings, died Saturday, January 2, 2010. Her funeral will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at First United Methodist Church in Brookings. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday at Rudes Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Brookings.

Arlene (Telkamp) Harvey, daughter of Emmett and Mary (Reeve) Telkamp, was born August 19, 1921 at Aurora, South Dakota. She received her education in rural schools and graduated from Brookings High School in 1939. Arlene continued her education at Stewarts School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls. During World War II she served with the Navy Waves from 1944 until 1945. She was united in marriage to Floyd Kenneth Harvey on August 1, 1948 at First United Methodist Church in Brookings. She was employed for several years at the Mariposa (Blakely) Beauty Shop. When their children were born she became a full-time mother and homemaker. Kenneth died on October 20, 1991 and Arlene continued to make Brookings her home.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was active in the Care Group. She was also a member of the Rebecka Lodge, enjoyed working on crafts, growing flowers and spending time at the lake. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Grateful for having shared her life are three daughters, Vonda Kirkham and her husband Gary, Voleta Schnabel and her husband Charlie, Deonne Nordquist and her husband Leland, all of Brookings; six grandchildren, Kolyn, Kasey (Jessica) and Kyle Kirkham, Kalee (Kyle) Greve, and Evan and Drew Schnabel; one great grandson, Kordell Greve; one sister, Ardelle Persing and her husband John of Sioux Falls; one step-brother, Dale Artz and his wife Clarice of Hendricks, MN; three sisters-in-law, Hazel Case of Florida, Nell Ivers of Sioux Falls, Shirley Harvey of Brookings; one brother-in-law, Ed Lorenz of Brookings; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one brother, Lyle Telkamp.
