Kyle, 8, was accidentally shot by his father, Don Spirit, on Nov. 14, 2001, at the end of a week long hunting trip to Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area near Kenansville in S. Florida.
Christine Spirit, Kyle's mother, recalled how she used to call Kyle "sweet pumpkin pie." But by the time he became a toddler, he bristled at the name. He asked her to call him "AppleJax" instead.
Now, Christine Spirit keeps a box filled with mementos of her beautiful son Kyle.
The family has also kept bicycles Kyle bought for himself and his older brother with birthday money, as well as shoes and trinkets. He will be greatly missed.
Kyle loved to to go fishing, play soccer and basketball and dreamed of playing on a national football league some day. He was very active and full of life. Kyle will forever be etched in the memories of those who knew and loved him.
