A victory service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 20, at the Tyro Christian Church with David Bycroft officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery at Niotaze.
Donald Leslie Jay was born Dec. 2, 1932, at Eureka, Kan., to Leslie and Lutie (Morgan) Jay.
He lived in the Eureka area until 1946. He then moved to Havana where he graduated from Havana High School with the class of 1953. He joined the U.S. Army Big Red One in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He served with the Engineer Group from 1953-1955 in Germany during the Korean Conflict. After the service he returned to work for Caney Glass Plant. He also worked for Reda Pump of Bartlesville, Okla. before hiring on Phillips Petroleum Co. He retired in 1986 after working 33 years. He retired as a senior design clerk.
He was baptized at the Tyro Christian Church. He served with the Copan
Volunteer Fire Dept. for 24 years, and was also an assistant scoutmaster in Copan. He served on the Copan City Council for 11 years. After his retirement from Phillips he worked with the Copan Public Schools. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and his grandchildren. He married Geraldine Wilson on Sept. 2, 1956, at Niotaze, Kan., and she survives at the home in Copan.
Other survivors include two sons, Richard Leslie Jay, Copan, and Leonard Eugene Jay, rural Copan; a daughter, Lorraine Suzanne Miller, Bartlesville,Okla.; two grandchildren, Lindsey-Marie Brooke and Chase Bradford Miller,Bartlesville; four brothers, Earl Jay, Independence, Charles Jay and wife Sandy, Bartlesville, David Jay and wife Donna, Bartlesville, Phillip Jay and wife Barbara, Caney; two sisters, Jenetta Loggan and husband Billy,Havana, and Barbara Wilson, Coffeyville; many nieces and nephews and loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Ronald Lee Jay, in 1957.
