Daniel, the fifth son and sixth of fourteen children of Amos Thompson and Catherine "Callie" Barnum was born in January 1794 at Dorset, Vermont. Daniel married Elizabeth Ronald, the daughter of George Sclater and Elizabeth (Smith) Ronald say 1811 at Ryegate, Caledonia, Vermont. They moved west about 1820, spending a year in Ashtabula, Ohio, then settling in Ft. Madison, Iowa. They had seven children:
1. Susanna Calista Thompson (b. 1820; d. 1903), m. 6 Aug 1836 at Des Moines, IA, William Carroll Reed (1816-1912)
2. Frances Thompson (b. 1822),
3. Elizabeth Mae "Lizzie" Thompson (b. 1822; d. 1853), m. 28 Jul 1838 at Van Buren County, IA, Henry Clay Tuttle (1818-1901)
4. Amos Fiske Thompson (b. 1824; d. 1910), m. 1852, Elizabeth Catherine Nye (1821-1901)
5. Jacob Thompson (b. 1827; d. 1911), m. 10 Oct 1863 at Jackson, OR, America Ellen Rollins (1826-1910)
6. Gilbert Thompson (b. 1829),
7. Catherine A. Thompson (b. 1833; d. 1905), m. say 1857 at Erie, NY, Roswell Doan (1828-1901)
Daniel Thompson died on 9 December 1870 in his 76th year at Washington State and is buried in the Foster Cemetery at Prescott, Walla Walla, Washington.
