Iris Anita King, was born on November 26, 1930 in Goose Creek, Texas, the daughter of Randal L. Miller and Sally Elizabeth Simmons Miller. Mrs. Iris grew up in Woden and attended Woden ISD, then lived in places like Alvin, Greens Bayou, and Channelview as an adult. Mrs. King and her sister, Audie, spent the earlier part of the 1940’s singing in revivals around Nacogdoches and Angelina counties. Singing was something she always enjoyed from early on. It was around that time that she met the love of her life, John Clifton King or “Bud” as he is known. They were then married on January 21, 1947. She became a homemaker and spent her days raising her wonderful children whom she loved spending time with. Mrs. King loved her Lord and Savior, and one thing she enjoyed doing was attending church. She was a member of Nacogdoches First Assembly of God. One of her favorite scriptures was Act 2: 38 “Then Peter said unto them, repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the
gift of the Holy Ghost.”
Mrs. Iris, along with singing, loved to play the piano. She would not only play for her church, but she would play and sing at 5th Sunday events, and around the state with various groups. She also volunteered to play at nursing homes.
Other things Mrs. King liked was watching birds, bowling, reading and especially traveling. She would enjoy Fall road trips accompanied by her loving family. Her absolute favorite music was Gospel. It was in fact integral to who she was.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Iris King are her grandsons.
She is survived by her husband “Bud”; her sons: Edward King and wife Judy of Nacogdoches, Texas; Jimmy King and wife Donna of Crosby, Texas; Stanley King of Woden, Texas; and her daughter Rita King of Dallas, Texas; her brother Opie Miller of Washington D.C and wife Hermina of Bad Aibling, Germany; by her sister Audie Morton and husband Dean of Pasadena, Texas; by 24 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Randal L. Miller and Sally Elizabeth Simmons Miller, and her son Mark King.
