Hal Hammer Walker, Jr., age 65, of Asheboro died Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 300 South Main Street, Asheboro with Dr. Terry L. Matthews and Rev. Tim Pheagin officiating.

Mr. Walker was born in Asheboro on January 29, 1948 to Hal and Edith Milks Walker. Hal was formerly employed with the Albemarle Commission, Region R Council of Governments, the Montgomery Economic Development Corporation, the Pee Dee Council of Governments, the State of North Carolina, and retired from Oliver Rubber Company, Michelin International. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Hal was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Ann "Monk" Degner. Hal was a former member of Kiwanis, Past Chairman of the Randolph County Democratic Party, Past Chairman of the Randolph County Mental Health Association, and was active in the United Way. He was a community volunteer and coached Little League Baseball and Soccer. Hal was known by many to be intelligent, very kind, a formidable and gifted speaker, had a great sense of humor, and was a good man and a good leader.

He is survived by his wife, Rosiland Wright Walker; sons, Hal "Hank" Hammer Walker, III and his partner Christina Mary Ross of Pinehurst, Matthew Lambert Walker of the home; granddaughter, Maggie Ross Walker; sister, Elizabeth "Bibba" Thomas and her husband Phil of Hamilton; and brother, Richard Worth Walker and his wife Patricia of Asheboro.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro
