Richard Eugene Cousins, longtime resident of Fort Smith, died Sept. 16, 2014, in the Medical Center of Southern Arkansas. Born to Herman and Charlotte Cousins in Little Rock on June 22, 1924, he graduated from Little Rock High School in 1942.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific as a radar man.

He attended Hendrix College in Conway, graduating in the class of 1948.

He worked many years as a Sentry Insurance salesman in the Fort Smith area and attended First Baptist Church in Fort Smith. He served on the camera crew there for 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, computers and photography as hobbies. He recently enjoyed his 90th birthday party while living at the Timberlane Health and Rehab facility in El Dorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lawrence Cousins, and his dear, beloved wife, Clarice, and her brother, Clyde Swann.

He is survived by his two sons, Rick (Lynn) of Texas and Steve (Janet) of El Dorado; five grandchildren, Mari (and her two sons) and Scott (and his daughter), all of Texas, and David (Anne), Sarah and Erin of Arkansas.

Military service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith with the Revs. Dale Thompson and Mark Weaver officiating under the direction of Perry’s Funeral Chapels in El Dorado.
