Virginia Mae (Sutton) Strong, 74, departed this life for her Eternal Home on Thursday, September 18, 2014 in her home near Gainesville, MO with her beloved husband, Chet, at her side. She was born September 1, 1940 in Springfield, IL the daughter of Edgar Ray and Mina May (Fox) Sutton. They both preceded her in death.
She married Chester Strong in Tulsa, OK on August 2, 1997. He survives. Virginia grew up outside of Nilwood, IL and graduated in 1958 from Girard High School. She retired from the State of Illinois after 40 years. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, and participated in League Bowling for many years. She and Chet attended the Free Holiness Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her cherished son, Tom Sutton of Fairview Heights, IL; sons Rickey Strong and wife Cathy of Richlands, VA, Mickey Strong and wife Lucy of Caspar, CA and Dickey Strong and wife Kim of Tulsa, OK; and a daughter Vickie Alexander and husband Vance of Sand Springs, OK. She had 14 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren whom she adored. Other survivors include a brother Don Sutton and wife Florence of Girard, IL; a sister Norma Clair and husband Dan of Loraine, IL; four nephews and two nieces.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2014 in the Patrick Cemetery with Joe Bean officiating. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Three Rivers Hospice; 901 Broadway; West Plains, MO 65775. Arrangements are by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
