John James Takacs was killed during a kamikaze attack off Okinawa near the end of WWII. He was aboard the USS Cassin Young (DD793) destroyer at the time of the hit, which also killed 21 of his shipmates. He was the son of Stephen and Elizabeth Takacs and is buried next to them with his sister. The Cassin Young is now a floating museum since 1981 and is docked at Pier One of the former Charlestown Navy Yard, which is now part of Boston National Historical Park. It shares Pier One with the USS Constitution. Ranger-guided tours are given in season and self-guided main deck tours are also available. There is a plaque listing all 22 victims of July 30, plus one sailor who was killed in another attack in April. Cassin Young was one of the last ships hit by a kamikaze. The ship may be Googled for more information via the park or the ship's volunteer website.
