Blechl, Frank L.

Frank L. Blechl, age 94, of Oshkosh, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. He was born on March 8th, 1920 and married Lois Wilde on May 17, 1947 at St. John's Catholic Church and proudly became the father of nine children. After graduation from Oshkosh High School, Frank had employment with Rockwell Standard before he served in the US Army in the 2nd Armored Division known as "Hell on Wheels". For four years during World War II he was in the First American Division in the occupation of Berlin; an honor guard for President Roosevelt for the Casablanca Conference and also for President Harry Truman for the Postdam Casablanca Conference in Berlin, Germany.

Frank retired from the Oshkosh Police Department as a detective after 30 years of service, including eight years as a motorcycle officer. Frank also had employment with Firstar Bank, Miles Kimball and with the summer EAA Convention after his retirement from the police force. His special tribute was for the Old Glory Flight that his son Mike took him to, and Mike also being a Navy veteran enjoyed so much for his special tribute to his dad. Dan also served in the US Air Force. Every one of his children had a special place in his heart. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BENG SO PROUD OF US AS WE WERE OF YOU! Every one of us has a special place in your heart as well as you are in ours. GOD BLESS YOU DAD. WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU AND MOM...JUST KEEP WATCHING OVER THIS FAMILY AS ALWAYS! In his 94 years, he greatly enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, sturgeon spearing, playing in card clubs of sheepshead, cribbage and pinochle. He was also a member of the Eagles 267 and American Legion. He and Lois accomplished visiting all 50 states in the Union. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by and his memory will be cherished by his wife Lois; and children, Michael (Ellen) of Campbellsport, Mary (Ed) Van Ravenstein of Cambridge, Patsy (Roger) Erdmann, Loretta (fiance Gary), special daughter-in-law, Diane Blechl, all of Oshkosh; Dan (fiance Sonya) of Spartensburg, SC, Alan (Melanie) of Neenah and Bruce (Tammy) of Pickett. Grandchildren, Luke, Megan Blechl; Lt. Col. Edward VanRavenstein III (currently in Afhganistan); Kristin (Jansen) Leigh; Ryan (Liz) Erdmann; Julie (Colin) Groff; Alex, Emily Blechl; Natasha (David) Dorsey, Ashlea Blechl, and Alana Blechl. Great-grandchildren, Miranda, Amber, Adriana, and Elixis VanRavenstein; McCoy, Jaimeson and Kadence Leigh; Dylan Sager, Devin and Kassandra Erdmann; Parker and Allie Groff, Leah Dorsey and Josslyn Blechl. He is further survived by two brothers, Gerald (Roberta) of Mt. Prospect, IL and Gilbert of Oshkosh; a sister-in-law, Patricia Blechl of Indianapolis, IN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many very dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank R. and Clara (Traxler) Blechl; two sons, Randy in 2009 and an infant son, Frank Steven Blechl; a brother, James; a sister, Wilma Kalous; a sister-in-law, Emogene and a brother-in-law, Leonard Kalous.

Funeral services for Frank will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Dr. in Oshkosh with the Rev. William Van DeKreeke officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held at the funeral home for the family on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established.
