FRIENDS SHOCKED BY TRAGIC DEATH
Wesley Rout, Former Truck and Transfer manager, Takes His Own Life.
His many friends throughout the area werd shocked last night to learn that Wesley Rout, 82, 113 Wayne Avenue, had died shortly before 1 p.m. as the result of having shot himself about hone hour previously. Two years of ill health and advanced age are the causes to which this unfortunate death of a weill-known citizen are attributed. Had he lived until August 8, he would have been 83 years old. Mr Rout was found in the bathroom by members of the family, who had been attracted by the shot. He had used a .32 calibre revolver. The bullet pierced the center of his forehead and death, according to the statement of Coroner G W Winn, resulted from hemorrhage. Mr Rout was born in Baltimore, Md, Aug 8, 1840. He came to Defiance from Piqua, Ohio in 1775(sic) and immediately engaged in the truck and transfer business here. During 38 years in this enterprise, he became well-known by everyone in Defiance as well as by many travelers whom he served on their visits to Defiance. He retired from business 10 years ago. Private funeral services will be held from the home at 2:30 Thursday afternoon with Rev H P J Seffinger, rector of Grace Episcopal church officiating. Friends were requested by the family today to omit floral tributes. Mr Rout is survived by his widow and five children: Mrs J D Haley of 308 Jefferson Street; Mrs W J Beard of Lincoln, Neb, now visiting at the Rout home; William X Rout of 115 Wayne Street; Robert Rout of Cincinnati and Forrest Rout.
