MUSCATINE, Iowa - Elizabeth Ann Knox, 78, of Muscatine, died on Sunday, January 5, 2014, at Lutheran Homes.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Reverend Cathi Bencken of Trinity Episcopal Church will officiate. Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Heather Kemper, Hope Jens, Heidi Stoll, Amber Russell, Melissa Johannsen, Jessica Johnson, Trisha Skidmore, Jason Brown and Jake Brown.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Muscatine Humane Society.

Elizabeth was born on December 15, 1935, in Muscatine, the daughter of Edward and Hazel Rosemund McCormick. She married Daniel Richard Knox on February 14, 1954, at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2010.

She had worked at Muscatine General Hospital as a CNA, was the head housekeeper at Holiday Inn and Riverview Heights, and was manager of the Plaza Theater. She retired from Wal-Mart.

She spent three years in Germany while her husband was stationed there. She loved flowers and gardening. She also loved fishing, feeding the wild life at her home on Green Street, and at one time had adopted a baby pig for a pet. She was a volunteer for Girl Scouts and had also worked as the grounds keeper for Camp Sacajawea. She loved to socialize and play cards.

Those left to honor her include her four daughters, Ruth Ann Brown and husband, John S Brown, of Morning Sun, Gabriela Ellen Fletcher and husband, Brian Eugene, of Wapello, Katherine Marie Smith and Jauneta Johnson and husband, Timothy, all of Muscatine; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a special family friend, Robert Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a son-in-law, John T. Smith.
