Daniel “Danny, Dan” Robert Berg, the third child and second son of Lawrence and Phillis (Cruden) Berg was born March 20, 1957 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby, North Dakota. He died, with his family by his side, at the age of 57 years on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Trinity Medical Center in Minot, North Dakota from a massive brain hemorrhage.
Daniel moved with his family in November 1959 to Modesto, California, where he attended nursery school. In April 1961, the family moved back to the family farm at Barton, North Dakota and he attended special education classes in Rugby. In January of 1980, Danny moved to Fargo where he worked at the Developmental Work Activity Center (DWAC) for 26 years. He lived in a group home there from 1980 to 1989, then lived independently in Fargo until 2005, then moved back to a group home in Fargo. He moved to Minot in December 2007 to live in the group home at 1005 11th Ave SE and worked at the Minot Vocational Adjustment Workshop (MVAW, now Kalix) until recent years when his health began to fail.
Danny took great pride in his work and he had a love for taking and being in pictures, collecting aluminum cans for recycling, family activities, especially birthdays and holidays, gift giving and receiving, and talking on the phone to his mom (whom he adored) most every night. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling and taking part in the Special Olympics, earning many awards from these. He even had the opportunity to take part in the 1987 International Special Olympics in South Bend, Indiana. He will be remembered for his extra special concern for others and his bubbly laughter.
Danny is survived by his mother, Phillis of Rugby; two sisters, Pamela (Dave) Anderson of Rugby and Penny King (Jim Pollman) of Barton; five nieces and nephews, Travis (Lisa) Anderson of Chippewa Falls, WI, Joshua Anderson of Grand Forks, Kirsten (Dan) Lee of Farmington, MN, Heather (Blake) Schaan of Harvey and Cody King of Devils Lake; six great-nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his father Lawrence (2008); a brother, David (2004); and his grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12th at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby with burial in the Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby. Pastor Dana Holter, officiating.
