SALISBURY, Md. - Alma M. Bonniwell, of Harrington, died Thursday, March 9, 2006, in Peninsula General Hospital, Salisbury, after a lengthy illness. She was 79.

She was born in Newport News, Va., daughter of the late Thomas and Lelia Major.

She went to work in 1967 as a nurse's aide in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, retiring after 22 years of service.

Mrs. Bonniwell enjoyed nice weather when she could get out and work in the yard and garden. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Bonniwell Jr. in 1966; a brother, Marvin Major; a half-brother, Tommy Major; and a sister, Betty Lou Winstead.

She is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, George III and Phyllis, William and Cora, and Calvin and Brenda, all of Harrington; three grandchildren, April McColley, Kim Defleice, Aaron Bonniwell; five great-grandchildren, Bethany, Trevor, both of Harrington, Zack, Connor, and Megan, all of Laurel; and a niece, Linda Austin, of Newport News.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
