Lara Hana Hurtado, (Hana) two-and-a-half, of Nampa, passed away on Friday Jan. 20, 2006 at St. Luke´s Medical Center in Boise.
Hana was a very special
little girl. She was born July 25, 2003, in Meridian, Idaho the youngest of five children born to Angelita Reyes and Jose Hurtado.
Although she was born with downs syndrome, she was always happy and enjoyed life. Hana struggled much with her health. At three months
she traveled to Portland, Ore. to have heart surgery at Doermbickers Children´s Hospital. When she returned home she began to fight
and regain her strength seeking to become as normal as possible. We later found out that she had Mylodysplaipa or MDS, a form of
leukemia treatable by chemotherapy. The treatments were successful and with frequent blood test and close monitoring she was okay.
In the beginning of 2005, Hana began to show signs of failure to thrive. Small compared to most children with downs syndrome,
Hana just wouldn´t grow. She became ill in March and the doctors noticed some change in her kidney functions. By balancing her
electrolytes, Hana once again fought back and began to grow. More recently in October, Hana once again became dehydrated and had her
electrolytes off balance. We were then informed that her kidneys were failing and she had a biopsy done on Nov. 9, 2005. Coming home
she was a happy girl, never showing any signs of giving up. She was always blowing kisses, singing and loving her family. When she
went to the local stores with her Mom and Dad she would smile and wave to everyone. On Dec. 14, 2005, Hana caught a cold that knocked
her system for a loop. It was at this time that it was discovered she had an incurable metabolic disorder mitochondrial cytopathy which
weakened her little body even more. She fought with all the strength her little body could find. Many times she humbled the doctors in
her battle to survive. But in the end her little body could fight no more. Hana has touched many people with her smile and hugs.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her. She was preceded in death by her sister Brandi. She is survived by her
parents, Joe and Angie Hurtado, brothers, Justus, Seth, Joshua, and sister Zo‘, her grandparents, Rac and Naty Reyes, of Emmett,
Felicita Perez and Elpidio Moran both of Madera, Calif. Aunts and uncles; Esma and Javier Dribio, of Emmett, Jodi and Rac Reyes,
Lewiston; Naomi and Matt Murphy of Wilcox, Ariz., Brooke and Rene Reyes of Emmett, Sylvia and Steve Adams of Caldwell, Lisa and
Chuck Slack of Emmett, Mario Hurtado of Fresno, Calif., Julian Hurtado of Everett, Wash. Yolanda and Raul Hurtado of Nashville, Tenn.
,and Gabriella and Rene Hurtado of Madera, Calif. and many cousins. She is very much loved.
