Lt. Col. Robert T. Weaver, USAF (Ret.), age 92, died at Air Force Village II on Sunday, September 14, 2014. He was born on October 18, 1921 in Spencer County, Kentucky, the son of Grigsby and Elizabeth Beard Weaver. He spent his youth on the family farm, attended a one-room country school through the 8th grade, graduated from Taylorsville High School before obtaining his baccalaureate degree from the University of Kentucky. Soon after graduating from Kentucky, he entered active duty as an Aviation Cadet in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He graduated from pilot training at Turner Field, Albany, Georgia in March 1944 and then assigned to B-17 Transition Training, was assigned a crew, had crew training and then went to England to fly with the 8th Air Force. He was wounded over Germany in early 1945 and was in the hospital until November of that year.

Bob returned to civilian life in 1946, joined the Air Force Reserves, taught high school and was recalled to active duty in 1951. Assignments followed in Air Research and Development, Air Material, Air University and airlift operations. Duty was performed in operations, flying, flight management and education. Assignments were at various bases in the United States, England, France, Germany, and Vietnam. He taught Air Force R.O.T.C. cadets at the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky and Bradley University, Peoria, Illinois. He was a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College, The Air War College, held a Bachelor of Science from the University of Kentucky and a Masters of Public Administration from George Washington University.

After retiring from the Air Force in 1974 with 32 years of service, he worked for the Landon School for Boys, Bethesda, Maryland as the Director of Services. He retired from this position and moved to Air Force Village II, San Antonio, Texas in 1990.

He was a Life Member of the Kentucky Masonic Lodge; the National Daedalians (a fraternity of military pilots); the Military Officer Association of America (MOAA), the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Virginia Katherine Briggs Weaver; his parents, William Grigsby and Nancy Elizabeth Beard Weaver; and a sister, Betty Jean Weaver. He is survived by a daughter, Betty Frantum of Corpus Christi, Texas and a son, William T. Weaver (Linda McDonald), three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Interment will be in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
