John A. Byrnes was the son of James & Catherine Burns of Redwood, New York. Brother of Edward Burns who lived in Carthage (Walsh & Burns). Was principal of the Redwood school, where his wife, Mary, was a teacher. He travelled west briefly and returned to NY and became the bookkeeper for the Davis Sewing Machine Co of Watertown and went with them for several years to Dayton, Ohio. He returned to Watertown around 1894 & built two houses, living in the one at 305 Keyes Ave. He became the head bookkeeper for the H.H. Babcock Co. Father of Alma Byrnes Sutton, wife
