Stephen A. “Steve” Cross, born in East Liverpool on March 16, 1952, passed away at his home in Ladson, SC, where he had resided in recent years to be nearer to his family. Steve, who was 62, died at 1:25 p.m. Friday afternoon September 12, 2014 with loved ones at his side.

He was the beloved son of James O. and Margaret “Peg” McCoy Cross, now of Clermont, FL. A 1971 graduate of Beaver Local High School, Steve was a member of the football and wrestling teams. A Vietnam veteran, he served with the U.S. Air Force, and had retired after 20 years as the Chief of the 354th Aircraft Generation Squadron – Armament Load Crew. He remained a proud American, and was Presbyterian by faith.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three daughters and four sons: Heather Godfrey and her husband, “Butch” of Wilmington, NC; Olivia N. Cross of Charlotte, NC; Elisabeth A. Franco and her husband, Luis, also of Charlotte; S. Eric Cross and his wife, Debra, with whom he resided; J. Scott Cross and his wife, Rachelle, also of Ladson; Gregory Cross of Charlotte; and Jonathan D. Cross, of Charlotte.

There are three brothers: James R. Cross and his wife, Evelyn, of Wilmington, NC; Kenneth W. Cross and his wife, Debra, of Groveland, FL; and Terry R. Cross of East Liverpool. Steve also leaves behind 21 grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Randall Lee Cross; a sister, Elizabeth A. Cross; and two sisters-in-law, Sandra Lee Cross and Kay R. Cross.

Steve will be laid to rest at Columbiana County Memorial Park, where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide military honors.
