D C’s TN or Nancy’s NC accent probably confused the 1850 census taker who wrote Eliza N C Short instead of Eliza Ann C Short.

✿ Military Warrants: 2/1/1851 through 4/15/1853 Don Carlos Short obtained 3 (three) pieces of property for a total of 448 acres of land in Amite County, MS, via the 1847 Script Warrant Act, which ordinarily would indicate he served the United States Military, but Don Carlos was assigned the land by someone who did serve or the heir of someone who served. Transaction may have been through barter or a cash deal.
✿ State Volume Patent: 1 Feb 1859, son, George P Short, purchased from the USA Bureau of Land Management: one (1) piece of property through a land patent in Amite Co., MS, for a total of approximately 319 acres.
✿ State Volume Patent: 1 Jan 1861, son, Thomas R Short, purchased from the USA Bureau of Land Management: one (1) piece of property through a land patent in Amite Co., MS, for a total of approximately 331 acres.
