MASON PILOT MOUNTAIN - Mr. John Jefferson Mason, 87, of 308 S. Lynchburg Road, Pilot Mountain, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born July 20, 1920, in Grayson County, Va., to the late Stephan Arthur Mason and Mallie Roberts Mason. Mr. Mason retired from Armtex after 28 years of service and he was also a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. He was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mason was preceded in death by a sister, Blanche Mason Parks; and brothers Dewey Mason and Willie G. Mason. Survivors include wife Ethel Mae Brinkley Mason of the home; son and daughter-in-law Charles W. Mason Sr. and wife Barbara of Pilot Mountain; grandchildren Susan Wocher and husband Frank of Elm City and Charles "Chuck" Mason Jr. of King; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Sara and Mason Wocher of Elm City; sisters Irene Mason Mallory of Galax, Va., and Maude Mason Funk of Galax; brothers and sisters-in-law Granville and Ilene Mason of Fries, Va., and Grady and Jeanette Mason of Fries; and sisters-in-law Barbara R. Mason of Fries and Teresa Mason of Galax. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Howell-Nelson Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Bob Thomas and Fred Bullington officiating. Interment will follow at Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Full military rites will be conducted by VFW Post No. 2019 of Mount Airy and VFW Post No. 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Physician Services and nurses at Forsyth Medical Center for their support and excellent care and also to the staff and to his caretakers at Village Care.
