Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 14, 2000 at First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, Iowa with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. Memorial Funeral Home, Columbia, Mo., was in charge of arrangements. Bette Janalee Bender was born Aug. 3, 1938 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of James A. and Bette B. Brandt Bender. She attended high school in Monticello, Iowa and graduated in 1956. On Aug. 16, 1950,(should be 1959) she married Kenneth Aldrich in Monticello. She was a third grade teacher in Waverly, Waterloo, Cedar Falls, New Hartford and Davenport. She was St. Andrew Presbyterian Church Secretary for several years. She was also employed at Sero Space Control Products, Eldridge, moving to Columbia in 1984. She was employed at the state office of National Association of Social Worker as office secretary until 1998.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth, Columbia, Mo.; her father, James A. Bender of Monticello; stepmother, Leona R. Bender of Monticello; two sons: Michael Dean Aldrich of Davenport, Iowa, Timothy Andrew Aldrich of Burlington, N.C.; a brother: James David Bender of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren: Benjamin Dean Aldrich, Jake Aldrich, Casandra Ann Aldrich. She was preceded in death by her mother and a son, Daniel James.
