Dale was born in Jersey City, NJ on December 13, 1935 to Orth and Rose (Crowe) Bell. Orth Bell was a radio broadcaster whose work moved the family throughout the Midwest where Dale grew up. Dale graduated with a from BA Emporia State College then followed his father into radio broadcasting. He worked in Missouri, Colorado and Kansas before moving to Urbandale from New Orleans in 1983. Dale was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church and enjoyed learning about transportation systems, especially railroads.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother, Glenn (Kathy) Bell of Annapolis, MD; nieces, Staci Johnston, Juli Kivett and Lisa Warhover and their families.
