OBITUARY
Mr. J. Stuart, who had been one of the leading marksmen in the Commonwealth for more than 35 years, died yesterday at his home in Thames street, Surrey Hills, aged 60 years. He represented Victoria in four Commonwealth matches and Australia in the Empire match against the British rifle team at Williamstown in 1920, when Australia won. Originally a member of the Cassillis club, he first came Into prominence as a marksman in 1906, when he was second in the Victorian King's Prize to the late J Hudson (Mildura). In Melbourne he joined the Post and Telegraph club with which he was associated for many years. Although Mr. Stuart competed in every State in the Commonwealth in representative matches, it was not until 1932 that he won a major honour. Both as a marksman and coach Mr. Stuart had few equals. In recent years Mr Stuart had been a member of the Fltzroy club. He has left a widow, one son and three daughters.
The funeral will take place to-day at 3.30 pm at the Burwood Cemetery.
