Son of Mabel Cordelia Wright and Joseph Carlisle DeVries. Brother of Joseph Carlisle DeVries, Jr., Sybilla Wright DeVries and Van Beuren Wright DeVries. Graduated from Adelphi Academy in Brooklyn, Class of 1928, then Williams College, Class of 1932. Had rheumatic fever as a child and while reading the newspaper died. His mother was in the kitchen fixing him a cup of coffee at the time. When she came out, he was dead.
