Obituary

SYLVANIA, Ga. - Mr. Lee Holmes Brower, age 87, died Monday, January 26, 2009, at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.

The native and lifelong resident of Screven County was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during World War II, where he was a member of the Eighth Air Force Division. Mr. Brower was the former owner and operator of Brower Oil Company. He was a former Screven County commissioner. Mr. Brower was a member of the Greenhill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 52 years and as a Sunday school teacher and director for many years. He held a life membership in the G.O.A. and was a Mason, where he was a member of the Sylvania Lodge #301. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Janie Bazemore Brower.

Surviving are his wife, Rebena Long Brower of Sylvania; two daughters and a son-in-law, Renee B. Jarrell of Sylvania and Gail B. and Zack C. Blalock of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Russell L. and Sally T. Brower and Kenneth L. and Cindy C. Brower, all of Sylvania; four sisters, Mary B. Callison, Carolyn B. Johnson, Exodyne B. Johnson and Ruth B. Bazemore, all of Sylvania; two brothers, Jack A. Brower of Atlanta and Edward Brower of Augusta; a sister-in-law, Sadie T. Brower of Sylvania; nine grandchildren, Mary Beth Webb, Emily O'Sako, Eric Bargeron, Evan Brower, Seth Brower, Bradley Jarrell, Madeline Brower, Ethan Brower and Aaron Brower; and five great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Greenhill Baptist Church with Dr. John Parker officiating. Interment will be in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Alton Crews, David Crews, Arnold Kimbrell, Walter Evans, Kirby Powell, Bill Brannen, Joe Evans Jr. and Jack Oliver Sr.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Stroke Association , c/o the American Heart Association , 1105 Furys Lane, Suite D, Augusta, GA 30907.
