T. Frank Van Eaton attended the public schools of Eatonville and graduated from the Stadium high school in Tacoma. He remained on his father's farm until the United States entered the World war, when he enlisted in the navy as a musician. He trained at San Francisco, was later transferred to Hampton Roads, and was then assigned to the United States cruiser South Dakota, on which he spent the greater part of his active service. During this period on shipboard he had charge of the moving pictures and was in the service altogether about twenty-two months. On receiving his honorable discharge, he returned home and for a time, in partnership with his brother, conducted a motion picture theater in Eatonville, running this business in the evenings, while during the daytime he was employed as a shingle weaver. In 1922 he was appointed to the responsible position of road supervisor, covering the territory from Ashford to Kapowsin. This position demands his full time and attention and he has from three to ten men under him. He has shown himself well qualified for this place and has maintained the roads in splendid condition, due to his watchfulness and sound judgment used in their repair.
In 1920 in Tacoma Mr. Van Eaton was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Campbell, who is a native of Wisconsin and a daughter of C. A. and Mary (Miller) Campbell. Her father died when she was a child but her mother still lives in Wisconsin. Mrs. Van Eaton came to Tacoma to make her home with her aunt and attend school. By her marriage she has become the mother of four children, Marie Jane, T. F., Jr., Jacqueline Ruth and Harley J. Mr. Van Eaton is a republican in his political views and fraternally is a member of Eatonville Lodge, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of which he is a past noble grand; and the Improved Order of Red Men, of which he is a past sachem, while Mrs. Van Eaton is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of Rebekah. Mr. Van Eaton has consistently supported every measure for the improvement of his town or the advancement of the public welfare, and his record is one that has added luster to the already distinguished family name.
