Husband of Katrina Gaye Jensen
Matthew John Whicker, age 30, was taken from his loved ones during a ruthless robbery in Woods Cross Utah on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996.
John was born on June 19, 1966 in Bountiful, Utah.
Loving husband and father; is survived by his wife, Katrina G. Jensen Whicker; son, Brennen John and daughter, Bethany Katja, five and two years old respectively.
Also survived by parents, Ben R. and Rea M. Whicker of Kaysville; siblings, Rea J. Richey of Grapevine, TX.; Glenn R. Whicker of Dale City, VA.; Charles F. Whicker of Ephraim; Benjamin M. Whicker of Kaysville; Jeffrey P. Whicker, also of Kaysville; Rachael M. Lindsay of Layton; Fred S. Whicker of Turnwater, WA.; and B. Ryanne Richison of San Dimas, CA.
John was a wonderful son, husband, father and brother, as well as a very fun and caring uncle to 43 nieces and nephews that miss him dearly. John spread sunshine and happiness to all he encountered. He was a hard worker and loved to learn. He could and did find joy in every situation and loved others so strongly that he was always willing to give of his time and effort to help others.
John served the Lord in the Michigan Lansing LDS Mission. He was a Gulf War Veteran, accomplished his goal of obtaining his private and instrument pilot license, and was working on obtaining his commercial pilot license. He was scheduled to graduate from the University of Utah in the spring of 1997. He had graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville Utah in 1984, and from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Calif. in 1989. He continued to study the Russian language which he loved.
Preceded in death by his Whicker grandparents, Benjamin Archie and Buelah Blanche, his nephew, Stephen Whicker and his niece, Angel Richison.
We will all miss him more than words can say, but are also very grateful for the time, love and joy that he was able to give us during his short stay on this earth.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to a special Trust Fund under the John and Katrina Whicker Family name at any First Security Bank.
Funeral services will be a 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996 at Kaysville 13th Ward Chapel, 875 East 200 No. Friends may call at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 No. Main, on Friday, from 7-9 p.m. and 12:45-1:45 p.m. at the church on Saturday. Interment: Kaysville City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
