OGDEN- Mary Francis Prunty Cowperthwaite, our beloved mother, grandmother, and wonderful friend, passed away Friday, Nov. 1, 2002.
She was born January 25, 1931, in Ogden, Utah, to Marguerite J. Hewes and Neil Francis Prunty.
On September 1,
1956, she married James Edwin Cowperthwaite, in Ogden, Utah. They had three sons, James "Jimmy" Cameron, Robert Edwin and Mark E. Cowperthwaite.
Mary graduated from Ogden High School with the Class of 1948, and attended Weber College. She was employed by the Ogden Dress Meat Company for 11 years. Subsequently, Mary began a successful and rewarding career with the Internal Revenue Service that spanned the next 35 years of her life. She was known as a friend to all and a mentor to many.
Mary was a loving, devoted wife and mother, who was completely committed to her children. She never missed a single sporting event or any other significant moment in the lives of her sons. The same level of selfless love and devotion was given by Mary in her relationships with her friends and acquaintances.
Mary was a member of the Mt. Ogden Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She highly valued her relationship with the ward members of the past 42 years. Her charter membership and her friends in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority were also very meaningful to her.
Mary is survived by sons Robert E. (Shelley) Cowperthwaite, Mark (Elizabeth Gail) Cowperthwaite, stepdaughters, Joyce and Linda, five nieces and nephews, and 12 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James, son, Jimmy, and sisters, Charlene Kenny, and Diana Jensen.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 7, 2002, at 1:30 p.m., at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, UT. Friends and family may call Wednesday, November 6, 2002, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., or Thursday, from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
