He was married in 1869 to Adelia Sandefur (1851–1906).
A retired farmer, he was living at 1610 Holley Street, Nashville, was a widower and 90 year old when he died at home of a coronary occlusion on December 7, 1940. Burial was the next day in Mount Nebo Cemetery, Maury County.
