LEOMINSTER – Dorothy Ann (Murray) Foss, 87, of Leominster and formerly of Stodge Meadow, Ashburnham, died on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at The Highlands in Fitchburg.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Mary Roberta Lambert of Kennebunk, ME, Patricia Ann Kinsella of Leominster, Katherine Marcella Niles of Hinesville, GA, Dorothy Frances Shinn of West Palm Beach, FL; also many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Robert W. Foss, in 2004.
Dorothy was born on March 8, 1927 in Boston, daughter of Robert and Agnes (Burns) Murray. She often told her family how grateful she was for having such loving and devoted parents. Dorothy was raised in Boston and graduated from St. Columbkill's High School in Brighton. She would often regale her loved ones with stories of meeting friends and dancing at the Coconut Grove wearing dresses made by her talented mother.
Mrs. Foss worked as a Nurse's Aide in Labor & Delivery at Burbank Hospital in Fitchburg for many years. As an Aide, she was with her daughters as they gave birth to the next generation of their family. The family cherishes fond memories of camping together at Cape Neddick in Maine and Lake Dennison in Winchendon. Spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow were her greatest joys.
Dorothy knew through words and through deeds how unconditionally and deeply she was loved. It is a profound comfort to her family knowing that although she has passed, she is now with God, her husband and with her adoring parents. We have lost our matriarch, but heaven has gained a truly generous soul.
Burial services will be private. She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon.
