Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, April 29 at 2 p.m. (EDT) at Harrington Heights United Methodist Church in Lanett with the Rev. Dennis Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Lanett.
Mr. Barber is survived by his wife, Thelma Clark Barber of Lanett; his daughter, Betty Sue Barber Sims of Smyrna, Ga.; his son, William Melvin Barber of Marietta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Jay Kevin Sims of Powder Springs, Ga., Shannon Kaye Sims Walden of Acworth, Ga., Karyn Leigh Sims and Cindy Anne Barber Tucker, both of Kennesaw, Ga., and Nathan Alan Barber of Marietta, Ga.; his great-grandson, Noah Sims; his sister, Mrs. Gwin Palmer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born Aug. 31, 1913, in LaFayette, Ala., Mr. Barber was a member of Harrington Heights United Methodist Church. He worked for WestPoint Pepperell's Lanett Mill for 25 years. Later Mr. Barber was employed as a carpenter and was an active farmer. Mr. Barber was a lifelong resident of Chambers County. He was the son of the late Nathanial Wesley Barber and Alice Ada Weldon Barber.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lanett.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Harrington Heights United Methodist Church in memory of Mr. Barber.
