Major League Baseball Player. The older brother of Hall of Fame former manager and all-star player Joe Torre, their father Joseph Torre, Sr., was a New York City detective and later a longtime Major League Baseball scout. Frank played at the first base position for seven seasons (1956 to 1960 and 1962 to 1963) with the Milwaukee Braves and Philadelphia Phillies. Born Frank Joseph Torre, he attended James Madison High School in New York, prior to being signed as an amateur free agent by the Boston Braves in 1950. He served with the United States Military during the Korean War and on April 20, 1956, he made his Major League debut with the Braves following their relocation to Milwaukee. During his rookie season (1956), he served as a backup to Joe Adcock and in 1957, Torre became the Braves' starting first baseman. That season, he experienced a world championship, as Milwaukee defeated the Yankees to clinch the title. He recorded a .300 batting average and two home runs during the 1957 World Series. The following year, Milwaukee repeated as National League Champions but the World Series outcome was reversed as the Yankees took the 1958 crown. He was briefly a teammate of his brother Joe, when his younger sibling was a late-season call-up in 1960. After two years of Minor League ball, he returned to the big leagues with the Phillies and in 1962, he produced a .310 batting average in 108 games. In 714 regulars season games, he compiled 404 hits with a .273 lifetime batting average. After retiring from baseball, he was an executive with a sporting goods company. In 1996, Torre underwent a heart transplant operation. In 2007, he received a kidney transplant via his daughter.
