He died at SUNY Upstate Hospital in Syracuse.

He was born in Emeryville, NY, Town of Fowler, on June 24, 1924, the son of Earl and Eva Gillett Parow.

He attended rural schools in DeKalb before serving in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. He served on the USS Earl K. Olsen in the Pacific Theater during WW II.

He married Patricia Elizabeth LaRock on June 30, 1959 in Troy, PA. She died on November 4, 1999.

He worked at James River Paper Company in Natural Dam, retiring in 1989 as a master mechanic. He had also worked at Loomis Talc Company in Fowler. Carl and Pat served as foster parents for over 30 children, of which many of them stay in touch with the family.

He enjoyed camping, woodworking, gardening, avid birdwatcher, and had been a lifelong member of the Gouverneur VFW.

He was survived by a daughter, Mrs. Frederick (Deborah) Pickert; two sons, David (Uta); Robin (Donna); seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a sister Freida Mason.

He was predeceased by his wife; his parents, 2 brothers, Clyde and Donald, 2 sisters, Hilda Dibble and Doreen Daily.

He was buried with military honors.
