Richard R. "Dick" Pope
PARIS, ME

Richard R. "Dick" Pope died at the Maine Veterans Home in Paris, ME on Saturday, September 6, 2014. He was born in Oxford on July 16, 1930 the son of Dearborn & Bessie Hersey Pope and was educated in local schools. Dick was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean conflict and had worked at Wilner Wood Products for many years before retiring. Richard was very active in the Buckfield community, having been a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post # 58, President of the Buckfield Athletic Association from 1969 - 2005, served the Buckfield Water Commission for over 20 years, past president of the Streaked Mountain Mountaineers Snowmobile Club, a member of the Buckfield Lodge AF & AM, member of the Buckfield Community Church, as well as being a former Boy Scout leader and baseball coach. He is survived by one son Peter T. Pope and his partner Steve Gagne of Auburn; one daughter Pam Wilson and her significant other, John Blackwell IV of Charleston, South Carolina; one brother, Robert Pope of Norway; one sister, Florence McLaughlin of West Paris and three grandchildren, Justin Greco and his wife Laurie McGhee of South Paris, Michael Greco of Port Richey, Florida and Darcy Pope of South Portland. He was predeceased by his first wife Joan Gesner on September 18, 2004 and his second wife Maxine E. Pope on December 8, 2012 and one brother Ronald Pope in World War II. Relatives and friends are invited to hours of visitation on Saturday September 13, 2014 from 9-11 a.m. at the Buckfield Community Church with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kathy Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the Damon Cemetery, Buckfield. Memorials in Dick's memory are requested to go to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or to the Buckfield Rescue, P.O. Box 179, Buckfield, Maine 04220. Arrangements by Cliff Gray Cremation and Funeral Services, 60 Andrews Road, Bryant Pond, Maine.
