Janet Briggs, 77, of Sawyer, Michigan died Friday afternoon, September 12, 2014 at Hanson Hospice Center surrounded by her loving family.

Janet was born July 12, 1937 in Buchanan to Bernard and Louise (Gast) Pazder. She attended elementary school and graduated from New Troy High School in 1955 with Fred Briggs, the man she would spend the rest of her life with. Janet and Fred were married August 30, 1956 in Three Oaks. She was a member of the little red brick Three Oaks Church of Christ. She loved caring for her home and family, she served as an Assistant Brownie Leader and a teacher’s aid at Chikaming School. She volunteered for the Chikaming Ambulance. Janet was talented and created many pieces of art in acrylic paint, she loved to sing, knit and crochet. She enjoyed traveling and had visited 49 states, taking a cruise to Alaska; as well as taking trips to England, Wales, Canada and Mexico. Janet was a member of the Sawyer Garden Club and an avid reader. She was a good cook, often using the produce she had canned. Of all her accomplishments, she loved her family best and cherished her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Fred; children, Lynda (Frank) Figueroa of Millersburg, Ohio; Gerald (Donna) Briggs of Baroda, Michigan’ and Rick (Sally) Briggs of Porter, Indiana; grandchildren, Michael, Vanessa, Nathaniel, Sarah, Matthew, Amanda, Nicole, Gerald, Joshua, Richard, Mark, Ashleigh, Rafael, and Anthony; great grandchildren, Anthony, Nicholas, Ariel, Xavior, Austin, Kailey, Austin, Stephanie, Richard III, Cecilia and Lylian; sisters, Judy (Lee) Barnes of Buchanan, and Claudia (Jim) Prenkert of South Bend, Indiana and brothers Stanley (Deanna) Pazder of Montgomery, Texas; Larry (Dixie) Pazder of Buchanan and Rick (Carol) Pazder of Maryville, Tennessee.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 15, 2014 at Pobocik Funeral Home in Three Oaks, Michigan with Rick Boklund, Minister of the Three Oaks Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at New Troy Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
