Mr. Barnes grew up at Pratt. He and Dorothy Stephens were married Jan. 23, 1931, at Garden City. They lived at Dodge City after their marriage. Mr. Barnes, during World War II, was superintendent of utilities at the Ford County Air Base. He worked for the Dodge City water department for more than 37 years and at the time of his retirement in 1972, he was superintendent of utilities for the city.
Survivors include the widow; a son, Paul of Dodge City; a daughter, Mrs. Joann Kregar of Arvada, Colo.; a step-son, Bob Smith of McPherson; a step-daughter, Mrs. Elmer (Virginia) Thornbrugh of Dodge City; five sisters, Mrs. Bessie Swisher, Mrs. Della Black and Mrs. Donna Seidel of Pratt, Mrs. LaVina McEntire of Clearwater and Mrs. Alma Hiskett of Wichita; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were incomplete at last report but funeral and burial will be early next week in Dodge City. Hulpieu-Swaim Funeral Home is in charge.
