Mrs. Jean Smith, age 75 of Tucker, Georgia passed away on August 15, 2013 after a long battle against non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She was born to John and Effie Wood on March 31, 1938 in Carrollton, Ga. She was a 40 year member of the First Baptist Church of Tucker. Jean graduated from Whitesburg High School and then attended Marsh Business College where she obtained her Business Degree. Following graduation, she worked for the Lovable Brassiere Company in Atlanta until its closing. She began a new career in public health at The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 1991 and retired on December 31, 2012. Jean enjoyed traveling and visited over 30 countries, including Australia, France, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, Russia, Egypt, Germany, Poland, Amsterdam, and Canada with her husband.

She is preceded in death by her parents John and Effie Wood, brothers Elbert and Reese Wood, and sisters Dura North and Nora Wood.

She is survived by her husband, Terry, of 54 years; sons and daughters-in-law, Gregg and Sherry of Tucker, Rex and Elizabeth of Lawrenceville, Scott and Shanon of Norcross; grandchildren, Dana Smith of Naples, Florida, Lea and Jake Smith of Norcross, Skyler and Sydney Smith, and Alex Garner of Lawrenceville; sisters and brothers-in-law Clara Stitcher, Geneva and Harry Bradley, Oscar and Telva Wood, J. W. and Helen Wood, and Myrtle and Aubrey Cook all of Carrollton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jesse and Mary Wood of Bowden, and Mary Wood of Carrollton; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Jean was a mother with strong family values and was actively involved in holiday celebrations, birthdays, vacations, sports, and many other family events.

The family will receive friends on August 17th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Bill Head Funeral Home at 6101 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker GA. A celebration of her homecoming will be held on August 18th at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Tucker, 5073 LaVista Road, Tucker, Georgia with an interment at 4:30 PM at the Carroll Memory Gardens at 914 Stripling Chapel Road, Carrollton, GA.

Randy Shepley, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Tucker and Mark Wood, Jean’s nephew, will be presiding over the services.
