Bud was born on
March 25, 1923, in Sibley, the
son of Frank and Mattie
(Kosher) Palmer. He attended
school in Sibley. He served his
country in the U.S. Navy during
World War II. On January 18,
1946, Bud was united in
marriage to Evelyn N.
Houstman at the Methodist
Church in Ochyedan. The
couple made their home in
Sibley and later moved to
Newell in 1954. To this union
three children were born, Fred,
Connie and Shirley. Bud owned
and operated his plumbing
company in Newell, known as
Palmers Modern Service, from
1960 until August of 2000.
Bud was known for his fast
pace, good work ethic and pride
in a job well done. He always
enjoyed celebrating his birthday
with an annual party for all his
customers. He was a member of
the Bethel Baptist Church and
the Newell American Legion
and had served on the Newell
Town Council and participated
in community events. Bud also
enjoyed fishing, going to local
area parades and stock car races,
watching football on TV and
playing board games.
Survivors include his three
children and their spouses: Fred
and Elaine Palmer of Newell,
Connie and Gary Herpst of
Storm Lake, and Shirley and
Williams Henrich also of
Newell. Other survivors include
his seven grandchildren; one
great granddaughter; and a sister
Ruth Graves of Sibley.
Preceding him in death were
his parents; wife Evelyn on
November 26, 2000; his sister
Caroline Graves; and two
brothers: Ben and Richard.
