A Mass of Christian Burial for Lyle C. Abbott will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday (September 15, 2014) at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville with Rev. John P. Wilmot officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Abbott, 92, of Stewartville, died Wednesday, (September 10, 2014) at the Stewartville Care Center.

Lyle Clayton Abbott was born July 27th, 1922 in Dover, MN to Mark and Anna (Ladwig) Abbott. He grew up on the family farm, attended rural schools. On June 1, 1949 he married Colette Ringey at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Following their marriage the couple lived in Rochester for a short time before moving to High Forest Township, rural Stewartville. Lyle was employed at Mayo Clinic in the X-ray department for 35 years until his retirement in 1987. The Abbotts moved into Stewartville in 1979 where they made their home. Mrs. Abbott died on September 10, 2009. Lyle was a longtime member of St. Bernards Catholic Church and was a a past member of St. Bridgets Catholic Church in Simpson. Lyle was also a member of several old time/polka bands in the area including the Polka Kings and the Jolly Norsemen. He loved playing his trumpet, drums and the upside-down button accordion. He enjoyed ime spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lyle is survived by four sons and five daughters Kevin (Aleta) of Kasson, Kalleen Porvaznik of Carbondale, IL, Jolene Constance of Denver, CO, Mark of Minneapolis, Shawn (Doug) Twernbold of Rochester, Mary (Dan) Young of Rochester, Erin Abbott (Earl King) of Rochester, Greg (Kathy Vos) of North Mankato, and Brian (Barb) of Stewartville; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and his sister, Leona Hawkins of Chatfield.

Preceding him in death were his wife Colette, parents and brothers, Wallace, Gordon, Marion Abbott.

A time of visitation will take place from 5 to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday (September 14, 2014) at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville with a prayer service at 4:30 P.M. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday Morning.

The family suggests memorials to St. Bernard's Catholic Church.
