Archie Jenkins, 90, of Pensacola passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014. Archie was born in Jay, Florida, on January 23, 1924.

He was a member of Warrington Baptist Church. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, enjoying his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Archie enlisted in the Navy on April 11, 1941. He attended Aircraft Engine Mechanic School in Jacksonville, Florida. He was assigned to Scouting Squadron Eight aboard the USS Hornet which took General Doolittle for his raid on Tokyo on April 18, 1942. Archie also served tours of duty on the USS Hancock, USS Bon Homme Richard, and USS Oriskany. He earned numerous awards and commendations during his 24-year naval career.

He was preceded in death by his sons Jerry and Jeffery.

Archie is survived by his wife, Darlene Jenkins; son, David Jenkins (Laurie); daughter, Jeanne Lambert; brother, Glenn Jenkins (Evelyn); three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
