Dennis the son of Walter Pawlowicz and Donna Pawlowicz of Duluth Minnesota enlisted in the US Marine Corps on July 1 1966 in Minneapolis MN. In Vietnam he was assigned to and served with Company F, 2d Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

During the month of April the 1st Marines conducted several operations against the enemy forces in Quang Nam and Quang Tin Provinces in Vietnam. Operation UNION was initiated after a Company of Marines was ambushed by NVA forces in Que Son District of Quang Tim Province. Two Battalions of the 1st Marines were deployed and made heavy contact with the enemy sustaining heavy casualties both by the friendly forces and the enemy before the Operation was turned over to the 5th Marines.

On April 21, Company F came into heavy contact with the NVA in the vicinity of the hamlet of Binh Son (1) and began to take heavy casualties. Reinforcements quickly arrived and joined in the battle to break through to the Marines of Company F who were surrounded by the enemy. By the end of the day forty-two Marines were killed in action and many more were wounded, four would die from their wounds, PFC Dennis Pawlowicz was one of the casualties, he was killed in action by hostile rifle fire.
